North Hollywood is known for its arts district which is home to theaters, dance and acting schools, galleries, and more. This itinerary will give you a taste of the art as you soak in the neighborhood vibes.
Getting There
- Metro: Take the B (red) line to the North Hollywood station
- Driving: Parking is a bit of a pain in NoHo, so we recommend parking at the Metro Park ‘n’ Ride lot on the corner of Chandler and Lankershim.
Morning
- 10:00am: Start the day with a light breakfast at Groundwork Coffee. Normally we’d try not to recommend a neighborhood spot with so many other LA locations, but this one is in a historic train depot, so it’s truly one-of-a-kind!
- 10:45am: Walk 10 minutes East along Chandler Blvd to discover the addition of a charming walking/bike path with pollinator gardens and public art.
- 11:15am: The path will lead you straight to The Iliad Bookshop, an iconic used book store complete with two resident cats. Browse to your heart’s content before heading back along the path to continue your stroll.
Afternoon
- 1:00pm: When you get peckish, turn back to The Iliad and then head one block North to Cahuenga General Store, a historically-themed sandwich spot. Eat in the garden, which is usually buzzing with hummingbirds.
- 2:00pm: Head back West along the path and continue on Chandler until you hit NoHo Recreation Center, which will take about half an hour, then stop to cheer on the skaters at the NoHo Skate Park.
- 3:00pm: Take the 2 blocks back to Lankershim and land at The Witch’s Cottage, a fantastical community space. Enjoy a magical cup of tea among the whimsical decor.
- 4:00pm: Just down the block, catch a film at the historic Laemmle NoHo 7 theater ($18) or see a live performance at The El Portal Theatre ($30+), both along Lankershim Blvd.
Evening
- 7:00pm: Have dessert before dinner with a slice of something sweet at Republic of Pie. You’ll find it just around the corner on Magnolia Blvd.
- 7:30pm: A few doors down, keep treating your stomach well with dinner at 350 Atelier Korean Steakhouse, and don’t skip the short rib!
- 8:30pm: Two blocks down and left on Craner Ave, head to Lawless Brewing Company, a craft beer taproom and local favorite hangout. If you’re looking for something a little more lively, head back to Lankershim to play a few rounds of pinball at Player One instead. When the night is done, you’re only a few blocks away from the Metro / your car!
Tips
- Total walk time: 1h 35m + however long you decide to meander along Chandler bike path
- This itinerary can be done Tuesday-Saturday.
- We recommend you book tickets in advance for shows at the Laemmle NoHo 7 or The El Portal Theatre.
- North Hollywood is home to more performance venues than we could possibly include in one day! Some other great spots are Zombie Joe’s Underground Theater, The Road Theater, Theatre 68, HAHA Comedy Club and The Comedy Chateau. It’s also home to the iconic Idle Hour barrel-shaped bar, but it’s a bit farther than you may want to walk.
