Neighborhood Series: Spending the Day in Los Feliz & Thai Town
7.2.26

Did you know that LA is home to the largest Thai population outside of Thailand and that our Thai Town is the only official one in the entire country?
We just had to squeeze Thai Town into this packed itinerary bringing you from Los Feliz through Griffith Park, to Thai Town, and back again (all on foot). Rest up, wear good shoes, and enjoy this incredible day!
Getting There
- Metro: Take the B (red) line to Vermont/Sunset
- Driving: Park until 10pm for free at the Barnsdall Art Park lower lot
Morning
- 9:15am: Start with a breakfast taco or two at the popular Tex-Mex spot, Home State, or grab a coffee and breakfast snack next door at Go Get Em Tiger.
- 10:00am: Stop in for a quick peek at Blue Rooster Art Supplies across the street for some creative inspiration.
- 10:30am: Head 2 blocks West to climb the hill to Barnsdall Art Park. If you plan to go on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, get tickets in advance to tour the Hollyhock House ($12), which opens at 11:00am.
- 11:30am: Make your way over to Hillhurst Ave and meander Northward while checking out the shops and stops along the way.
Afternoon
- 12:30pm: After about 20 minutes of walking, stop for lunch at Alcove and enjoy the gorgeous patio. We recommend you keep it light with something from the top notch bakery.
- 1:15pm: Continue North along Hillhurst Ave all the way up to the Greek Theater, about a 33-minute walk. From there, take the Observatory/Los Feliz DASH shuttle, which runs every 15 minutes, up to Griffith Observatory (free). There’s always more to explore at the observatory, so focus on whatever you haven’t seen before.
- 3:45pm: Take either of the Observatory Trails (E or W) about 22 minutes down the hill until you find yourself at The Trails cafe and grab yourself a pick-me-up.
- 4:15pm: Keep walking South along the serene Ferndell Nature Trail, then transition to the busy city streets and head to Thailand Plaza. Make your way downstairs to visit the Silom Supermarket - about 22 minutes walking in total - and grab some Thai snacks to take home.
- 5:15pm: In the lot next door, pop into Bhan Kanom Thai dessert shop for a little something sweet.
- 5:30pm: Walk East a few blocks until you reach Sapp Coffee Shop Thai Restaurant for some of the best jade noodles in town.
Evening
- 6:30pm: Head East for about 13 minutes. You’ll be passing right by Barnsdall, so if you plan to stay out late, we recommend you grab your car and find another spot to park.
- 7:00pm: Keep heading East 2 more blocks, then turn left onto N Vermont and head 3 blocks North Skylight Books for an evening browse.
- 7:30pm: One more block North, stop in at Fred 62 for a late night snack / second dinner, then top it off with dessert from House of Pies across the street.
- 8:15pm: Head back South along N. Vermont and stop in for cocktails at Bar One (something new), The Dresden (something classic), or Mirate (something trendy). Walk 3 blocks back to the Metro train or your car by 10:00pm before the lot closes.
Tips
- Total walk time: 2h 27m
- This itinerary can be done Thursday - Saturday.
- If you happen to be getting a late start, stop at Soap Plant / Wacko across the street from Home State (they open at 11am). To make the day a bit longer, stop for a movie at the Los Feliz 3 at 7pm or 9pm.
