This itinerary in Studio City includes not one, not two, but ZERO studios! Instead, you’ll see some gorgeous hiking views and shop til you drop…into an ice cream parlor.
Getting There
- Metro: The 218 bus is the best option, with a stop just one block away from the trailhead lot.
- Driving: Park at the Fryman Canyon trail lot on the corner of Laurel Canyon Blvd and Fryman Rd.
Morning
- 9:00am: Bring a snack and water for your morning hike through Fryman Canyon. There are several easy to moderate options among the trails in Wilacre Park, with most loops taking about 1-1.5 hours.
- 11:00am: Refuel with brunch at Joan’s on Third. If you drove, park in the garage at 12222 Ventura Blvd for a $12 daily max. If you took public transportation, take the 218 just 5 minutes North or walk 18 minutes. After brunch, pop into Greenwood next door for some light gift shopping.
- 11:45am: You’ll already be right at the weekly farmer’s market - one of the best in LA. It closes at 1pm, so make the most of your time.
Afternoon
- 12:45pm: Grab a scoop of knock-your-socks-off ice cream at McConnell’s just across the street from the farmer’s market. Snag a table inside or a spot on the outside bench to enjoy.
- 1:15pm: It’s been a big day for your body already, so pause for a healing moment at ARTHA Yoga and Wellness Sanctuary. Choose from infrared, cryotherapy, float therapy, or a wellness class ($29-$49).
- 2:45pm: Now that you’re feeling zen, head West along Ventura to do some shopping. We recommend Bookstar (Barnes & Noble) for the architecture and Annabelle’s Book Club for making a curated purchase. Stop at The Shops at Sportsmen’s Lodge, about 23 minutes walking, for shopping at this upscale outdoor mall.
- 5:30pm: On your way back East on Ventura, swing by Pinz - a 60+ year old institution - for a round of bowing ($20+/person).
Evening
- 6:45pm: Head East on Ventura on your way to dinner. For a more interesting route, peel off at Whitset Ave - left to walk along the LA River or right to walk along neighborhood roads. Either detour adds less than 5 minutes to your walk for a total of about 32 minutes. Arrive at Firefly to enjoy a romantic, serene dinner among the fairy-lit garden or moody interior.
- 8:00pm: If it’s your thing, pop across the street to Sweet Flower for an approachable, modern take on the dispensary.
- 8:30pm: Just one block West, try a scoop of ice cream - Argentinian style - at Freddo.
- 9:00pm: Time for a nightcap! For a casual beer, head next door to Laurel Tavern. Or, for something a little more sophisticated, check out Black Market Liquor Bar across the street. When the night winds down, you’re only a 12-minute walk from your car or one short bus trip from a metro train station.
Tips
- Total walk time: 1h 35m + hiking
- Total drive time: 5 minutes
- Besides the farmer’s market, which is only on Sundays, this itinerary can be done Tuesday-Sunday. A word of caution that Pinz closes at 6pm on Thursdays.
- We recommend making reservations for ARTHA and Firefly in advance.
