Where to go Camping Near Los Angeles This Summer

Camping is so popular in LA that weekend reservations can fill up months in advance. For our Type A friends, we’ve compiled a list of sites that still have weekend (Friday & Saturday) nights available through the end of July (as of the time this is posted, of course!). Our Type B friends are welcome to try their luck at the area’s first come first served campgrounds.

Chino Hills State Park: Rolling M. Ranch Campground

  • Chino Hills State Park brings 14,000+ acres of rolling hills, 90 miles of trails, and wide-open nature. Hike, bike, ride, or explore the Discovery Center. Closures happen after rain or during fire warnings.

Lake Piru: Lake Piru Recreation Area Campground

  • Lake Piru Olive Grove has 200+ campsites under olive trees, plus lake access for boating and fishing. Amenities like restrooms, showers, and hookups keep it comfortable. Expect summer heat.

Angeles National Forest: Pyramid Lake Los Alamos Campground

  • Los Alamos Campground sits 90 minutes from LA with easy access to Pyramid Lake. Spend the day jet skiing or wakeboarding, then wind down with mountain views by the water.

San Bernardino National Forest: Applewhite Campground

San Bernardino Regional Parks: Prado Regional Park Campground

O’Neill Regional Park: Arroyo North Campground
