Teams are encouraged to have 6 to 8 players so you have flexibility week to week.
- If your team only has 3 rostered players and no substitutes, you can still play without penalty
- You are allowed to find a subtitute to reach 4 players for the game
- Substitutes must be approved by the commissioner ahead of time
- Each subtitute can only play one game per season
Forfeits & Punctuality
Your team showed up to play with you. Don't leave them hanging.
- Game time is start time. Plan accordingly.
- Teams without enough players:
- After 5 minutes: forfeit 1 game
- After 15 minutes: forfeit the match
- Teams with multiple forfeits may lose playoff eligibility
- If something comes up and you can't make it, let the commissioner know ahead of time.
We recommend arriving 10 to 15 minutes early to warm up and to avoid forfeits.
Self-Officiating
All games are self-refereed, which means players are responsible for making their own calls.
- Call your own fouls honestly
- The team on the side of the ball makes the call
Close Calls
If the play is close:
- The team on that side makes the call
- If there's disagreement or no clear call, replay the point
If there's a disagreement:
- Talk it out quickly and respectfully
- If you can't agree, replay the point and keep it moving.
Keep it fair, keep it fun, and keep it moving.
Rotation & Substitutions (In-Game)
Teams rotate after every side out (when yourteam wins the point and gets the serve).
You can choose one system per game:
Player-for-player
- You pair up with one teammate
- You only sub in for each other
- Swap as often as you want
Rotating in
- Substitutes rotate into one position - usually server
- Keep the same order all game
- Don't skip people unless needed for the gender rule
If someone shows up late, they can jump in the back row when ready.
